Rab is great for active vacation. You do not have to be Armstrong or Bolton, after all, you are on vacation, but you can still enjoy and explore the nature. Offering hiking and biking trails, Rab offers many sports activities. Here we are pointing out many reasons to stay in Rab not only for the swim and in the main season. Do not forget, before you take some action, make sure to get all information and pick up free bike and trail map in some of the local tourist info offices.
1) CLIMB UP TO ST.COSMA’S AND DAMIEN’S CHURCH AND FORTRESS
The trail starts at the border of Banjol and Barbat, from the main road going up the hill. This fortress and church date from the early Byzantine kingdom and still are very interesting for archaeologists and scientists.
2) BIKE AROUND THE ISLAND
For active bikers, and the ones just nature lovers, Rab offers some 66 kilometres of maintained trails and much more kilometres wild trails. There are mountain trails across Supetarska Draga and Mundanije for fair enthusiasts, but also many easy trails along the seacoast of the island, through forest Kalifront and peninsula Frkanj. Popular race ADRIA BIKE – 4 ISLANDS is covering this trail so you might apply for this race if you are looking for some action.
3) HIKE TO KAMENJAK PEAK
The trail starts in Rab, in Palit or in Mundanije and it takes around 1,30 hours to arrive at the highest peak (408 metres) of the island. Mostly it goes through the forest and shadow, and the last 15 minutes across typical terrain for Kamenjak. On the way to Kamenjak you will pass next to observatory Vidilica. Check it out and enjoy the view. There is no mountain house on Kamenjak, but the little bit further there is a small restaurant Kamenjak, with an amazing view over the island and surrounding region.
4) HIKE ACROSS THE RAB ISLAND – FROM MIŠNJAK TO LOPAR
One of the most difficult hiking trails in Croatia but definitely the most beautiful. It will take around 11 hours to cross Kamenjak hill from Mišnjak (there is a car ferry port) across heavy terrain to Lopar city, so make sure you are capable of doing so.
5) DISCOVER FRUŠKA LOKVA
This is a natural puddle, located in Supetarska Draga with easy access from the St. Peter’s church. It is situated right next to the bike and hike trail (Premužićeva staza) that connects Lopar with Rab and Kamenjak peak.
6) JOGGING THROUGH PARK KOMRČAR AND ALONG SEA PROMENADE
Great trail for joggers even during the hot summer, as it is completely in the shadow of the forest. The trail exits in Škver, close to the beach bar and continues towards Kampor. If you need some more than 10 kilometres trail, continue to peninsula Frkanj or Kalifront forest.
7) TRY OUT OPEN AIR FITNESS ARENA IN THE CITY PARK
Right above the main St. Christopher’s square, you will find great and free exercise equipment.
8) RENT A QUAD
There are two rentals in Rab, both in Supetarska Draga.
9) RENT A BOAT
In Croatia, it is not possible to rent a motor boat, any kind, without a permit for boat handling. So if you are offered, say thank you and take a taxi boat, they are not so expensive and drop off and pick up can be easy agreed with the boat driver. There are also cheap taxi lines to peninsula Frkanj from Rab old town and from Škver beach in Palit.
